Fort William SWI takes home coveted shields
MEMBERS of the Lochaber Federation of the Scottish Women’s Institute held their annual general meeting and quiz in Fort William recently.
After federation business and the prizegiving, conducted by chairwoman Christine Haynes, was completed, Isobel McGavin, president of Fort William, welcomed everyone to Fort William and the annual quiz.
She introduced quiz master John Weller and his son Ben, who was his able assistant.
Press secretary Martine Young said: ‘Both gentlemen conducted a very professional quiz which was enjoyed by the teams representing each institute and the members of audience who also participated unoffically.’
Although the questions were taxing, the scores were close and Fort William pipped Arisaig to the post by one point to win the coveted shield.
The afternoon ended with tea provided and served by the host institute and everyone left agreeing they had had a very enjoyable afternoon.
The following Federation trophies were presented: Shield for the institute with the most competition points gained at federation rallies – Fort William; shield for the member winning the most competition points at federation rallies – June Cairns, Arisaig Institute; The Margaret Adams Quaich art trophy – Martine Young, Fort William Institute, for her collage picture.
