Fort Wil­liam SWI takes home cov­eted shields

MEM­BERS of the Lochaber Fed­er­a­tion of the Scot­tish Women’s In­sti­tute held their an­nual gen­eral meet­ing and quiz in Fort Wil­liam re­cently.

Af­ter fed­er­a­tion busi­ness and the prize­giv­ing, con­ducted by chair­woman Chris­tine Haynes, was com­pleted, Iso­bel McGavin, pres­i­dent of Fort Wil­liam, wel­comed ev­ery­one to Fort Wil­liam and the an­nual quiz.

She in­tro­duced quiz mas­ter John Weller and his son Ben, who was his able as­sis­tant.

Press sec­re­tary Mar­tine Young said: ‘Both gen­tle­men con­ducted a very pro­fes­sional quiz which was en­joyed by the teams rep­re­sent­ing each in­sti­tute and the mem­bers of au­di­ence who also par­tic­i­pated un­off­i­cally.’

Al­though the ques­tions were tax­ing, the scores were close and Fort Wil­liam pipped Ari­saig to the post by one point to win the cov­eted shield.

The af­ter­noon ended with tea pro­vided and served by the host in­sti­tute and ev­ery­one left agree­ing they had had a very en­joy­able af­ter­noon.

The fol­low­ing Fed­er­a­tion tro­phies were pre­sented: Shield for the in­sti­tute with the most com­pe­ti­tion points gained at fed­er­a­tion ral­lies – Fort Wil­liam; shield for the mem­ber win­ning the most com­pe­ti­tion points at fed­er­a­tion ral­lies – June Cairns, Ari­saig In­sti­tute; The Mar­garet Adams Quaich art tro­phy – Mar­tine Young, Fort Wil­liam In­sti­tute, for her collage pic­ture.
