Wind band marks milestone with successful spring fling

-

LOCHABER Community Wind Band staged a successful Spring Fling to mark its 21st birthday.

Forty musicians took part in the concert at Duncansburgh MacIntosh Church, Fort William, on Sunday May 14.

The amateur musicians, based in Fort William, put together an excellent programme of music, supported by musicians from across Scotland.

A band spokesperson said: ‘It was wonderful to have Charles Hine leading the band for our weekend celebration. He is an absolute gentleman.’

The Rotary Club of Lochaber supported the event by manning the doors and selling tickets and programmes.

Rotary members Margaret Boyd and Sheana Fraser served tea, coffee and biscuits at the interval, with proceeds going to the rotary club.

The band was founded in 1996 by John G Whyte, who has been the band’s conductor and prime motivator since.
