Skye Sailing Club presented with top award
SKYE sailing club has been presented with its club of the year award.
The open invitation for the community to join Skye Sailing Club for a Saturday of sailing taster sessions was declared a resounding success by James Allen, RYA Scotland’s Chief Executive Officer, who was at the club to formally present the RYA Scotland Club of the Year award to Commodore Hugh MacDonald and join in the fun on and off the water.
During the evening, James Allen delivered RYA Scotland’s big plan for sailing nationally to current members and those from the past who came to reacquaint themselves with the set up after having worked to form the Portree-based facility of more recent years.
The light breeze early on could not dampen spirits and every boat at the sailing club was on the water for RYA Push the Boat Out as members welcomed everyone to join them to see Portree from a whole new perspective – a sailing dinghy.
By the time those assembled drifted home, more than 30 had been on the water, many for the first time.
New memberships were taken up and one adult beginners sailing course sold out.
Plans are now under way to schedule in additional course dates and anyone that missed the sailing tasters can email firstname.lastname@example.org and a new date will be arranged for a trial session.
New sailors joined existing members for Skye Sailing Club’s RYA Push the Boat Out event.
