Day out sees Angus a double champion
PIPER Angus D MacColl from Benderloch ‘took a lift’ with his son Andrew James to competitions at the Atholl Gathering and Highland Games held last weekend, and came back as its reigning champion.
One of the first major games of the season saw Mr MacColl take two firsts in the hornpipe and jig and the march, Strathspey and reel, and a second in the piobaireachd prize. The contest is sponsored by Glenfiddich and adheres to College of Piping grading.
Speaking from teaching a busy class of young pipers getting ready to play with Skerryvore at this weekend’s Oban Live, Mr MacColl said: ‘I have never been to Blair Atholl before so I took a lift with my boy when he was going.
‘It was alright for a day out to win.’
But it was back to the day job on Monday as Mr MacColl works with pupils from Oban High School who will play a ‘few jigs’ at the end of the Oban Live this Saturday evening.
Angus MacColl had reasons to be cheerful.
