Get hands on to improve the paths in our mountains

The Oban Times - - Outdoors -

ACROSS Glen Nevis and our various events, from tree-planting to archaeology, one thing is a necessity to connect you with the outdoors and your adventure – paths.

Where would we be without them? The environment of our mountains would certainly be struggling and many outings simply wouldn’t get started.

With that in mind, how many of you have put a little back into these paths that take us on these amazing journeys across wild land and up our biggest mountain?

Recently, we welcomed volunteers from National Trust for Scotland for a week-long work party to look after one of the most famous paths in the country, the Allt a’ Mhuillin, and got some real results.

People power is crucial to maintaining the outdoors, so why not give it a try? This weekend we’ll be grabbing our pinchbars and mattocks for a day of remedial work on the upper part of Ben Nevis.

If you feel hill-fit and ready to give the land a hand get yourself signed up to take to the mountains with Dougie, paths officer, and give a little back.

We hold path work parties on the first Saturday of every month. No experience is necessary and training is provided but you will need a good level of fitness to tackle uneven ground and mountainous terrain at times.

Get hands on about your landscape. For more information, go to www.nevislandscape.co.uk/ events or call 01397 701088.
