Unionist was always likely to be elected

The Oban Times - - Letters -

Sir, There is an irony in Islay Councillor Alastair Redman’s victory letter highlighting separatists saying he was unelectable, which he has proven wrong.

Prior to his election, Mr Redman was on BBC Alba saying people on the Islay doorstep used to talk about all the Islay revenue going to the Exchequer and not much coming back.

Now it has switched to whether you are separatist or unionist. So it is no surprise that, with three council seats available in the Kintyre and the Islands ward, Mr Redman, being a unionist, was elected.

He should thank the separatists for helping him land a nice taxpayer-funded job as a councillor. Colin M Campbell, Bruach Gorm, Port Charlotte, Isle of Islay.
