Something New, Ross, Skye and Lochaber
We work a little differently here at Something New. We have an open manifesto which anyone can contribute to. The decision, I believe, lies in the hands of the people.
We provide a technology-based means to accurately represent the current opinion of the populace. I ask every resident to contribute to the open manifesto by visiting somethingnew.org.uk/manifesto/ and clicking ‘Suggest a Change’. This can be done easily by any member of the public, and every member of any party, easily through any internet- connected device such as a smartphone or laptop.
We propose a contemporary app that allows voters’ voices to be heard quickly and securely.
Using our system, when people contribute, we can quickly and accurately gauge the desire for and against and initiate a response based on a democratic mandate.
Within the first year I will engage every non-voter by making politics easy to access and removing the historical tribal divides and biases. We want to make the public aware of services that can show the voting record of their MPs in seconds. With new tools we can eliminate the apathy perceived by younger voters and have an informed society making smart, quick decisions easily and without barriers.
Ultimately, I would like to see the gov.uk system integrated into the open manifesto and eliminate the need for representatives to travel, saving money and allowing them to understand better the needs of their constituents.
