Liberal Democrat, Ross, Skye and Lochaber

The Oban Times - - Election Special -

Scottish Liberal Democrats believe that Scotland is best off in the UK and the UK is best off at the heart of Europe. We want to see the closest possible relationship with our European partners.

The Conservatives are intent on throwing away our place in the single market which is so vital for our prosperity. We need our economy to be strong to provide essential public services like schools and hospitals. We cannot have a strong economy if we leave the single market. That is why the Liberal Democrats strongly oppose the Conservatives’ rush to a hard Brexit.

Someone will have the final say on the eventual deal. Liberal Democrats believe it should be the British people in a referendum. The government should not be allowed to mark its own homework on an issue of such critical importance which will determine our country’s prosperity for decades to come. The people should have the choice of accepting the terms on offer or remaining in the EU.

Liberal Democrat MPs will vigorously stand up for the UK’s place in the single market, strive to retain co- operation which helps catch criminals, protect our environment and gives opportunities to our young people to work and study in the EU.

If I am elected, two things will be particularly important for me. First is that, over the summer, I get back to every part of the constituency to have longer discussions about the issues. Local people should have a say in what happens in their area. The second thing is to make progress on broadband and connectivity, which is so important where communities are spread out.
