Robert MacKenzie

Conservative, Ross, Skye and Lochaber

The Oban Times - - Election Special -

This election comes at a critically important juncture in the history of the United Kingdom. We have voted to leave the European Union and only the Conservatives have the strength, commitment and resolve to carry out the democratic will of the people and act in the national interest to get the best deal for the whole of the United Kingdom.

We continue to face the threat from the SNP of yet another divisive independence referendum and only the Scottish Conservatives have the backbone to defend our precious union with England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

In our home communities, the SNP is failing our young people, with falling literacy levels in our schools and longer waiting times in our hospitals. It constantly blames such problems on Westminster and austerity, while failing to use the powers it has at Holyrood to raise revenue and allocate resources effectively.

It is time to end the uncertainty and elect a strong and stable Conservative government that will continue to strengthen our economy, so that we can finance the world- class schools, hospitals, social care services, infrastructure, defence forces and security services we all expect, sometimes take for granted, and too infrequently take a moment to cherish.

I am a local farmer who was born in Dingwall and brought up on my family’s farm in Easter Ross. I believe in fairness, freedom of individual choice, tolerance, working hard, speaking out against injustice and respecting the rule of law.
