K9 Kev and Rory O’B’s album launch raises £760 for three Oban charities
AN OBAN rap duo raised £760 for three Oban charities at their album launch party on Saturday.
Kevin Irvine and Rory O’Byrne, who are also known as K9 Kev and Rory O’B, hosted the party at Cuan Mor, Oban, to officially release their EP, titled Vocal Heroes.
Around 100 people showed up for the gig, which raised money for the Oban Youth Cafe, Scottish Autism, and Soroba Young Families.
These charities were chosen as Kevin works for both the Youth Cafe and Scottish Autism, and went to Soroba Young Families as a child.
The money was raised through a combination of ticket sales and raffle tickets.
The stellar raffle included prizes such as a pair of Oban Live tickets and a bottle of Jura whisky, which was auctioned off for £ 50.
‘The atmosphere was amazing,’ Kevin said. ‘I did not realise how electric it was going to be.
‘I would like to thank all the local businesses that contributed to the raffle and to Digital Kangaroo for designing and printing the posters.’
Jamie Livingstone kicked off the night by performing a number of his poems.
He was followed by Oban musicians Lora Macleod and Neon Sheeba.
‘Lora and Neon Sheeba played amazing sets,’ Kevin added. ‘And Jamie Livingstone did some fantastic poems.’
The event was themed around young people having a place to perform as ‘there is nowhere for them to do that.’ K9 Kev and Rory O’B recently won a competition, with the public voting for a local act to play at the biggest live music event in Argyll and Bute – Oban Live.
The pair will take to the stage at 4.45pm on Saturday with their live band – K9 and O’B.
Speaking about performing at Oban Live, Kevin said: ‘The rehearsals are going well.
‘ We have got a couple of special guests coming to join us on stage.
‘I can’t wait to get on stage in front of a home crowd. It’s going to be exciting.’
