Thought for the week

The Oban Times - - Births, Marriages & Deaths - James Beaton Oban Free Church

So, are you gripped with election fever? Can’t wait for the next leaders’ debate? Devouring every word of the party manifestos? Or more likely, you are asking, what on earth is going on?

How many more elections/referenda can we take? Maybe Jeremy Corbyn will be our next prime minister. After all we voted to leave the EU, America elected Donald Trump. Who knows?

On June 8, millions of voters will be making their choice. Whether we will vote with the conviction of the party faithful or the weary resignation of something we ought to do, surely we all recognise that the authorities at every level have an extremely difficult task.

We are often critical of our elected representatives, sadly sometimes with good reason. But I believe there is something more positive we can do.

That is to follow the advice one early Christian leader Paul gave to his younger colleague Timothy and pray for all those in authority.

It surely can’t do any harm!
