THE 32nd Am-Am charity golf tournament, organised by Oban Rotary Club, saw a nail-biting win and a record raffle at Glencruitten Golf Club on Sunday.

The raffle raised a ‘stunning’ £725, which will be donated to Mary’s Meals, while the auction made £400 for local causes, which all adds to the group’s £10,000 fundraising total this year.

Third prize, the Angus Simpson Memorial Trophy and £100, went to Andy’s Giants, composed of J Forgrieve, A Campbell, D McGill and W Adam, for their score of 91 points.

McFadyens contractors took second prize, the Allan McDougall Memorial Trophy and £120, collected by Malcolm Cullen on behalf of his team mates A Jamieson, S McCuish and F MacKay.

Both McFadyens and a team from Scottish Sea Farms came top of the leader board with 96 points, but in the event of a tie the winner was decided by who played the best last nine holes, which fell by just one point to Scottish Sea Farms, comprising G Carney, D MacMillan, D MacMillan, and I MacMillan.

Scott MacMillan, an employee of Scottish Sea Farms but not a member of their winning team, collected the Bank of Scotland Trophy and a top prize of £200 on behalf of his colleagues who were not present at the end of the day-long event which started at 7.30am.

In other results, the prizes for nearest the pin went to G Miller, P Monteith, K Wotherspoon, F MacKay, K Mackie, and J Campbell.

The D& K Lafferty’s team of F O’Rourke, P Dunn, M Kelly, C McIntyre won the yellow ball competition, and the top visiting team went to Munro’s Garage, comprising C Munro, C Munro, P Walton and R Bergant.

Rotary Club president Graham Fraser said all 40 members played their part in organising the annual tournament, and thanked all those who helped and donated money and prizes. ‘Everything went smoothly. The weather was kind. Everybody was happy.’

Rotarian and Am-Am stalwart Iain MacIntyre had a special reason to celebrate this year, making par on the 12th for the first time in his life. He is 72.

The club will now get busy organising their next event, a sportive around Loch Awe in September.
