Grateful to people for public spirit
Sir, I wonder if I could through your columns, express my gratitude for the kindness of two unknown people in Oban recently.
On Thursday May 25 I parked my car at Pulpit Rock prior to going for the Craignure ferry. I fell on the path linking Pulpit Hill with the main road and sustained a nasty injury, being treated by the doctor at Bunessan later.
Before leaving Iona, I discovered that my car keys were missing (my wife had a spare) and deduced that I had dropped them on the path.
When I reached Pulpit Rock I noticed that someone had taped a plastic cover over the side window of the car (I had left it open on a hot day) to protect it from the rain.
I knocked on various doors to express thanks but no- one was at home. I then recovered the keys at the police station. I was therefore unable to express gratitude to either of the kind persons who had assisted me. At a time when we are tempted to be cynical about public spiritedness, it was very welcome to see such acts. Rev Dr Iain Whyte. 14 Carlingnose Point, North Queensferry,
