Sun­day June 11

Beinn Dearg Mor – Big Red Hill - (709m) and Beinn na Cail­lich – Hill of the Old Woman - (732m), Isle of Skye.

Take the path from the B8083 which leads to Coire-chat-achan, then head NW up the steep hill­side to the sum­mit of Beinn na Cail­lich.

Fol­low the ridge west to Beinn Dearg Mhor and con­tinue S around Coire Gorm to Beinn Dearg Bheag.

De­scend the E ridge, cross the Allt Beinn Deirge and re­turn to Coire-chat-achan and the path back to the road.

The walk is 11km, with an as­cent of 1,020m. Sug­gested and co-or­di­nated by An­drew Gil­bert.

To­day (Thurs­day June 8)

Drimnin to Kin­lochteacuis by Doir­linn, Locha­line. This is a through route, mostly on good tracks, with ex­ten­sive views of the Sound of Mull, Loch Su­nart, the Ard­na­mur­chan Penin­sula and Loch Teacuis.

Start from the end of the B849 at Port nam-Freumh, NM 557539, where lim­ited park­ing is avail­able. Head N in to the es­tate by the track with a pub­lic foot­path sign and fol­low it to the gates of Drimnin Ho.

Turn right and fol­low the track N and E above Aulis­ton Point and con­tinue E to Doir­linn, pass­ing the de­serted vil­lages of Portab­hata and Sor­na­gan.

Head SSE on rough ground in de­cid­u­ous wood­land to reach a pathEX at NM610579. Fol­low it S, over a fence, into a mixed wood­land plan­ta­tion. Soon af­ter cross­ing the Allt Gh­leann Gu­daEX the path joins a for­est track. Fol­low the track SE, fork­ing left to cross the river Barr on a bridge at NM619559.

Turn E and con­tinue on the track, which leads SE close to the shore of Loch Teacuis just af­ter Ard an Tiobairt.

Fork left to exit the for­est at the head of Loch Teacuis and reach the end of the pub­lic road, NM656541. Trans­port re­quired.

This is a mod­er­ate walk of 19Km, with a climb of 400m.

Meet at Cor­ran Ferry slip for 9.15am sail­ing. Start of walk at 10.30am.

Satur­day June 10

A’Bhuid­heanach Bheag and Carn na Caim – Dru­mochter. A high-level route on the bound­ary of the Cairngorms Na­tional Park, with ac­cess mainly on tracks.

Start from the layby S of the snow gates on the E side of the A9, NN639823. Fol­low the A9 S for 200m and turn E onto a track.

Climb SE up the track to a junc­tion just be­fore a sum­mit, 902m.

Take the right fork and head S on the trackEX which by-passes the sum­mit of A’ Bhuid­heanach, 879m, to reach a WP at NN6583478839 at the end of the track. Al­ter­na­tively, head di­rectly over this sum­mit to reach the same WP.

Climb the slope S on a faint path to the sum­mit of A’Bhuid­heanach Bheag, 936m.

Re­trace steps to the junc­tion at the 902m sum­mit. Take the right fork and fol­low the trackEX NNE, over a sum­mit at 914m, to its end at an­other sum­mit, 914mEX, NN668816.

Turn NE and head for the sum­mit of Carn na Caim, 941m. Head di­rectly W from the sum­mit, down steep slopes, across the Allt Coire Uilleum, back to the A9. Al­ter­na­tively re­trace steps to re­join the track back to the junc­tion and de­scend NW to the A9.

This is a mod­er­ate walk of 18Km, climb­ing to a height of 803m

Meet at Fort William Woollen Mill NN112742 at 9.20am, with the walk start­ing at 10.30am.
