The Oban Times - - Sport -

BUDDING young footballers are being invited to sign up to a number of football coaching sessions that are taking place across Argyll and Bute this summer.

The sessions, which are being organised by Argyll and Bute Council, are open to young people aged three and upwards, with different sessions designed specifically for each age group.

Mini Kickers is aimed at children aged three to four and focuses on developing their basic motor skills and giving them a good physical and social foundation for football and general sports.

Soccer Week is for youngsters in primary one through to S1. These sessions help to develop basic skills through football and will be delivered in fun activities which focus on agility, balance, speed and co- ordination.

The third category is a residential camp for nine- to 15-yearolds.

The council has teamed up with the Scottish Football Association to offer young people the opportunity to attend a five- day residential camp in Oban.

This camp will enable football stars of the future to experience the life of a professional footballer and take their skills to the next level with highly qualified and experienced Argyll and Bute/SFA coaches.

The council’s head of community and culture, Donald MacVicar, said: ‘This is a great opportunity for young people to get involved in football, while keeping fit and making new friends at the same time.

‘These sessions are always very popular and I would urge anyone wishing to attend to sign up as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.’
