FORT WILLIAM army cadet Dar­ren Stu­art has re­turned from the Scot­tish cadet tar­get ri­fle com­pe­ti­tion a win­ner.

The 15-year- old from the Fort William De­tach­ment, 1st Bat­tal­ion The High­landers, rep­re­sented his group at the com­pe­ti­tion, which was held near Dundee, and se­cured first place.

The one- day com­pe­ti­tion saw The High­landers com­pete against teams of cadets from across Scot­land.

De­spite only hav­ing one day of prac­tice lead­ing up to the com­pe­ti­tion, the cadets did not let this af­fect them, win­ning ev­ery trophy in the com­pe­ti­tion.

The cadets won the Watts Bowl, for the 300m shoot, and the Frank­furt Trophy, for the 500m shoot.

In­ver­ness cadet Cor­po­ral Euan Ste­wart won top shot.

By win­ning the Scot­tish com­pe­ti­tion Dar­ren, along­side the rest of The High­landers team, will now take part in the in­ter-ser­vice cadet ri­fle meet­ing, held at Bis­ley in Sur­rey in July, com­pet­ing against young peo­ple from across the United King­dom.

The High­landers cadets tar­get ri­fle team proudly show off their tro­phies. Now they go on to com­pete at Bis­ley.
