End discrimination in favour of Europeans

The Oban Times - - Letters -

Sir, I refer to the letter from Ken MacColl ( The Oban Times, May 25).

The Home Secretary has to deport a large number of non-Europeans because we cannot have totally unlimited immigration, and EU law does not allow us to deport Europeans.

It is not discriminatory to want to redress the imbalance of present and past discrimination. As soon as we leave the EU in 2019, we must have new immigration laws that provide equality between Europeans and non-Europeans by ending the special privileges provided to Europeans under EU laws. We must put and end to discrimination against non-Europeans.

There are some non-EU European countries that have freedom of movement agreements with EU. We must not be one of them because it amounts to discrimination against non-Europeans. I am very consistent in my views.

I am totally opposed to discrimination of any kind.

SNP, Lib-Dems and Greens all support the special privileged position of Europeans. If there were a UKIP candidate in my area, I would vote for them but, since there is not, I am unsure who to support.

It is unlikely that I will support Labour because Jeremy Corbyn has said he will introduce additional UK-wide public holidays on St Andrew’s Day, St David’s Day, St George’s Day and St Patrick’s Day. This is not acceptable because they are all Christian Saints and we already have an abundance of holidays linked to Christianity.

The four new holidays should be on days that are connected to Islam, Judiaism, Buddism and Hinduism. When the time comes to add a fifth new holiday, it should be linked to Sikhism.

It is unlikely that I will vote Conservative because of the way they discriminate against disabled people by, for example, stopping unemployment benefits for severely disabled people on the grounds that they are not trying hard enough to find work. David Gallant, Oban.
