Lochaber Dinghy Hill Race
ANOTHER successful Lochaber Yacht Club Dinghy Hill Race has taken place.
The course crosses Loch Linnhe from LYC, ascends Meall an t Slammain (467 metres) before returning by the same route. It’s said to be similar to the Meall an t- Suidhe race but with thick heather, and sea water.
First runner back was Nick Sedgewick of LAC in a time of 28:37, a new record. Amanda Blackhall was first lady and first FV 40 in seventh position. Kenny Lang won the MV50 category in fourth.
Niall Macbeath took the MV40 prize in sixth. Nineteen runners from a number of clubs/ locations competed, the furthest being Canada. Well done to all who took part.
Sailors and runners enjoyed the sail, or motorboat ride, across in good conditions. The sailing race from the opposite shore was rather one-sided as the wind had dropped and only one boat had remembered their paddles. Paul Biggin (LYC) and crew took first place, Matt Linguard (LYC) and crew took a creditable second. No records were broken. It is hoped to run and sail the race again in 2018.
A spokesperson would like to thank Conaglen Estate, Lochaber Embroidery And Printing (LEAP), Tesco, all marshals, timers, helpers, rescue boat crews and especially everyone involved with catering.
The LYC website shows details for sail training and events, all welcome – come down for a chat Thursdays after 6pm – www.lochaber-yacht- club. co.uk.
