Mil­lions to be spent on af­ford­able hous­ing

MORE than £100mil­lion is to in­vested in af­ford­able homes across the High­lands.

The Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment an­nounced fur­ther in­vest­ment of £1.75 bil­lion in af­ford­able hous­ing across the coun­try on Tues­day (June 13).

For the first time, coun­cils and house-builders across Scot­land’s 32 lo­cal author­i­ties will have the op­por­tu­nity to plan ahead with grant sub­si­dies guar­an­teed for three years.

Kate Forbes, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Bade­noch, said: ‘The an­nounce­ment the High­lands will re­ceive £125m over the next three years pro­vides the cer­tainty Skye, Lochaber and Bade­noch and the sec­tor needs to keep pro­gress­ing and en­sures we keep up the mo­men­tum to reach the Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment’s tar­get of 50,000 new af­ford­able homes by 2021.’

Ms Forbes said the in­vest­ment will ‘strengthen’ the es­ti­mated 14,000 jobs the af­ford­able hous­ing sup­ply pro­gramme sup­ports each year.

Spend­ing on af­ford­able homes in the High­lands is set to in­crease by around £ 8mil­lion be­tween 2018/19 and 2020/2021.

The Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment is aim­ing to have 50,000 new af­ford­able homes by 2021.
