Millions to be spent on affordable housing
MORE than £100million is to invested in affordable homes across the Highlands.
The Scottish Government announced further investment of £1.75 billion in affordable housing across the country on Tuesday (June 13).
For the first time, councils and house-builders across Scotland’s 32 local authorities will have the opportunity to plan ahead with grant subsidies guaranteed for three years.
Kate Forbes, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, said: ‘The announcement the Highlands will receive £125m over the next three years provides the certainty Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch and the sector needs to keep progressing and ensures we keep up the momentum to reach the Scottish Government’s target of 50,000 new affordable homes by 2021.’
Ms Forbes said the investment will ‘strengthen’ the estimated 14,000 jobs the affordable housing supply programme supports each year.
Spending on affordable homes in the Highlands is set to increase by around £ 8million between 2018/19 and 2020/2021.
The Scottish Government is aiming to have 50,000 new affordable homes by 2021.
