Oban mums urge backing for breastfeeding project
A BABY support group is urging Oban businesses to display a breastfeeding-friendly sticker.
Oban Bumps, Babies and Beyond gets together every Monday at 10am at the Baptist Church Hall, Albany Street, Oban.
The group contains a number of NHS-trained Infant Feeding Peer Supporters and they are asking Oban businesses to embrace NHS Highland’s breastfeeding friendly campaign.
NHS Highland’s Welcome Baby sticker scheme aims to ensure mums can breastfeed, and businesses are asked to participate by displaying a sticker to let women know they are welcome to breastfeed there. Businesses can apply for the pack online, via the NHS Highland website.
Oban establishments to have already signed up include Roxy’s, the Bridge Cafe/Go Bananas, Oban Chocolate Company, Oban Library, Little Potting Shed, Oban Phoenix Cinema, the Kitchen Garden, Kerrera Tea Garden, the Robin’s Nest in Taynuilt, and the Ben Cruachan Inn at Lochawe.
Ailidh Campbell of Oban Bumps, Babies and Beyond said: ‘It is your right to breastfeed in public, but if places are breastfeeding-friendly then they are showing mums they will be made to feel welcome and if anyone complains, it is the complaining customer who is offered alternative seating.’
