Vol­un­teer­ing around Lochaber high­lighted in an­nual VOSCARs

VOL­UN­TEER­ING in Lochaber was cel­e­brated last week as com­mu­nity rep­re­sen­ta­tives gath­ered for the 2017 VOSCARs.

As part of na­tional vol­un­teers week, Vol­un­tary Ac­tion Lochaber (VAL) hosted the awards at the Ben Ne­vis Ho­tel.

VAL man­ager Flora McKee told the Lochaber Times: ‘We would like to thank the Ben Ne­vis Ho­tel staff for their sup­port, ev­ery­one who took part in the nom­i­na­tions, our in­de­pen­dent panel of judges, master of cer­e­monies David Ogg, pho­tog­ra­pher Kim Fer­gu­son and Iain Fer­gu­son.

‘Thanks also to the Lochaber Com­mu­nity Part­ner­ship rep­re­sen­ta­tives who came along to present the awards. A fi­nal thanks to High­land Coun­cil, the Ro­tary Club of Lochaber and Strath­more Ho­tels which spon­sored the event.’

The win­ners were: young vol­un­teer, Jo Shep­ton; vol­un­teer of the year, Maria Mac­Don­ald; best sup­port­ing or­gan­i­sa­tion, West High­land Mu­seum; board/ com­mit­tee mem­ber of the year, Sarah Kennedy; or­gan­i­sa­tion of the year, Lochaber Hope; good neigh­bour fi­nal­ist, Myra Austin; and the life­time achieve­ment, John Hutchi­son.
