M&S plans for Oban given public approval
PLANS for a Marks and Spencer foodhall and cafe in Oban have been welcomed with excitement.
Townsfolk are already planning what to buy at the shop, with many people commenting on and sharing the post on The
Oban Times Facebook page. However, there is still no opening date.
The plans lodged with the Argyll and Bute Council last Wednesday show the company plans to install windows to the front of the former Lidl store.
The foodhall would incorporate an M&S cafe. The proposal comes in two sections: one is for the display of window signs, canopy signs and trolley bays.
Comments on The Oban Times Facebook page were generally in favour of the well- established UK shop.
Sine Murray, from Oban, said: ‘Great news! I think it will do well. It’s not competing with Lidl or Aldi. Now, can we have a Matalan or similar large family department store?’
Laura Wately posted: ‘ Can’t wait, saves a trip to Glasgow.’
Post-mistress Islay MacNab from Taynuilt was rueful of her decision to move away from the area, saying: ‘Typical, just when I am looking to move away.’
