KILFINAN Community Forest Company has been awarded £47,200 from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), towards the cost of building a new forest centre.
This will provide an indoor venue for training courses, seminars, workshops and community events, as well as upgrading current facilities.
The building is expected to be delivered for under £ 80,000, with funding from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund (CCF) as part of a low- carbon classroom project – as well as core KCFC funds – helping to fund the balance.
Nikki Brown, KCFC’s development manager, said: ‘A venue for training and skills development has always been a top priority in our development plans. Not only will this facility enhance our volunteering and training programme, it will also increase our capacity to deliver future projects, such as woodland burials.
‘We would like to extend our thanks to our funders for their support and we look forward to seeing the forest centre up and running this summer.
