Oban High pupils picked for Scotland

The Oban Times - - Sport -

LAST week, the Scottish Schools Athletics Board announced the national team to compete at the schools international in Dublin in July.

For the third year in a row Oban High School pupils have been chosen to represent their country at this event. S5 pupils Finbar Dunne and Grace Thompson have been selected to throw the discus. Their success follows on from former pupil Paddy Dunne who represented Scotland and Oban High School in 2015 and 2016 in the javelin, winning a bronze medal at the international competition last year. Finbar and Grace have been selected due to their recent success at the Scottish Schools’ athletics competition earlier this month.

Many hours of intense training in all weathers throughout the winter were put in by both athletes to reach this standard.

The youngsters are coached by Oban High School’s athletics coach Duncan MacIntyre in partnership with lead throws coach Duncan Flockhart from Inverness Harriers and coaches from Victoria Park City of Glasgow Athletics Club.
