Scottish Water team takes on Highland 500
LAST weekend saw 16 men from Scottish Water offices in Skye, Inverness and Fort William cycle more than 500 miles around the Highlands raising money for Water Aid and Highland Hospice.
Dubbed the ‘Highland 500’, the team set out from UHI in Inverness on Thursday June 22 and travelled through the Cairngorms, Fort William, Glencoe, Ardnamurchan, Mallaig and Skye before heading up the west coast to Applecross, Ullapool, Ledmore and the Black Isle before returning to Inverness - a total of 525 miles.
Heavy rain and strong winds made the going tough at times with teams of four riders cycling each leg of around 16 miles together.
Garry Noakes, from Tarskavaig on Skye, who cycled 252 miles said: ‘That’s the Scottish Water Highland 500 over for another year.
‘A great event with a great bunch of guys.’
