Event will ex­plore de­serted township

PEO­PLE on Mull will have the chance to learn about the de­serted township of Ard­chi­avaig.

Start­ing on Mon­day (July 10), var­i­ous work­shops will take place over five days at Ard­chi­avaig. The project is called Fo­cus on Ard­chi­avaig: Sùil air Àird Chi­ab­haig.

The free-to-at­tend event will give peo­ple the chance to learn what lies be­neath the soil in a walk- over sur­vey. They will get to work on an ar­chae­o­log­i­cal sur­vey, get train­ing on elec­tronic dis­tance mea­sur­ing and dig­i­tal film­ing. They will also be taught how to sketch and pho­to­graph the find­ings.

How­ever, peo­ple tak­ing part are asked to re­mem­ber to take a fully- charged de­vice (cam­eras, iPads, note­books, smart phones) to get some tips from ex­pert Alas­dair Satchel.

A film com­pe­ti­tion will also take place for those aged be­tween five and 16.

Peo­ple can at­tend for as lit­tle as a cou­ple of hours or take part in the full five days free of charge.

The event is be­ing funded through a grant from the Her­itage Lot­tery Fund.
