Oban SWI celebrates 100 years in style
THE Oban branch of the Scottish Women’s Institute celebrated the organisation’s centenary in style on Sunday.
The women dressed to dazzle and enjoyed afternoon tea and a homemade 100th anniversary cake. They joined other groups across the country in celebrating the milestone, with some hosting garden parties.
Kay MacDonald, a town ambassador and member of the SWI, said: ‘ We thought a garden party might be pushing it because of the weather.
‘But this is the hall we normally have our meetings in, so we wanted to celebrate it here.’
Speaking before they cut the cake and poured the refreshments, Kay said: ‘We are going to have afternoon tea, drink Prosecco and enjoy ourselves.
‘I have created a playlist from the 1920s onwards.’
The group will be meeting again in the Guide Hall in September. It meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.
Kay said it is a great place to make friends. ‘ We do a lot of crafts,’ she said. ‘We have people doing a lot of talks, but the main thing is we get to speak to people we wouldn’t normally meet.
‘There are people from their early 20s to their 80s and everyone gets on really well.’
