Cash boost for Grim­say mar­itime at­trac­tion plan

GRIM­SAY Com­mu­nity As­so­ci­a­tion ( GCA) has re­ceived an of­fer of fund­ing from the Outer He­brides LEADER pro­gramme.

Since ac­quir­ing the for­mer mis­sion house, re­unit­ing it in com­mu­nity own­er­ship with the neigh­bour­ing cen­tre at Ceann na h-Àirigh (the for­mer Free Church), GCA has been work­ing on plans and fund­ing ap­pli­ca­tions.

The award of £122,234 is a con­tri­bu­tion to­wards com­mu­nity plans for the re­de­vel­op­ment of the site to pro­vide a boat hall to dis­play some of the Grim­say boats and tell the story of the Ste­wart boat­builders, which will be the only mar­itime vis­i­tor at­trac­tion in the West­ern Isles.

Also planned is more cafe seat­ing in an at­trac­tive con­ser­va­tory ex­ten­sion, an area for weekly mar­kets, of­fices GCA and an ex­cit­ing pro­gramme of ac­tiv­i­ties and hands- on work­shops. THE SUM­MER sea­son on Grim­say is al­ready busy with Talk on Tues­day prov­ing pop­u­lar with a full house ev­ery night. Talks are held at 7pm on the first Tues­day of the month at Ceann na h-Àirigh, Grim­say.
