Comic Con returns to Fort William

-

SUPERHEROES and villains will descend on Fort William again this September when the Highland Comic Con returns for a second year.

Last year Fort Con put on a colourful display of crusaders and the event, the first of its kind in the Highlands, was a sell- out.

Mums, dads, teenagers and children were kitted out in their best attire, some simply sporting a mask, while others painted their faces like animation and comic villains and heroes.

This year’s guest line-up will boast some big name favourites and household heroes at the event on September 30.

‘Let the challenge begin’ will no doubt be heard across the Nevis Centre as James Mackenzie, best known for playing the lead role in the children’s game show Raven, will make his first appearance at the event.

Star Wars actors Brian Wheeler and Rony Bridges, from The Force Awakens, as well as Outlander and Angel's

Share star Scott Kyle are due to take part.

There are numerous Comic Cons across the UK, but Fort Con’s commitment to graphic novels, ranging from amateur self-published efforts to big author favourites, has proved popular with fanatics.

Comic book guests at the 2017 event include 2000AD and Judge Dredd legend Colin MacNeil, alongside both original Highland comic con organisers (Hi-Ex) Richmond Clements and Vicky Stonebridge.

Italian creator Silvia Carrus and Manchester-based Ken Mcfarlane have also been announced.

As well as showcasing comic art, there was a range of panel discussions, art and book stalls.

‘Cosplay’, a shortened term for ‘ costume play’, refers to dressing up as a character from a film, book or video game, and a roster of cosplay guests will be available for photo opportunities on the day.

A volunteer recruitment day will be held at the Nevis Centre on Sunday July 30. Anyone interested should go along between noon and 3pm.
