12-month ban and fine after driver crashed
A MAN has received a 12-month ban from driving and a £ 850 fine after he crashed on the A85 near Connel and refused to give a blood sample.
Ewen MacPherson, 22, of Laguvlin, Shore Road, North Connel, pleaded guilty to careless driving when he appeared at Oban Sheriff Court on Tuesday July 18.
MacPherson lost control of his van at 11.20pm on April 8 as he was headed towards Connel.
He clipped the road’s verge before drifting onto the opposite side of the road and crashing into a wooden fence and stone wall.
Emergency services arrived on scene and MacPherson was taken to hospital due to a number of cuts on his head, which required stitches.
Police then wanted to bring him into the station, but the doctor wanted to keep him in hospital for observation.
This led the police to ask him to take a sample of blood, but MacPherson refused. He was fined £ 350 and received six points on his driving licence. He was subsequently disqualified from driving for 12 months and received a £ 500 fine for failing to provide a specimen of blood without reasonable excuse.
