Open shoot at Glendaruel
SATURDAY August 15 was destined to be one of those days when the rain was not going to relent. The combination of a new fixture in the club’s calendar, and poor conditions, narrowed the field to 18 seniors and two juniors.
Two side competitions were also available; the usual pool trap and a restricted five-gun 15 target shoot selection by reference to the scores in the Trophy competition.
The MacAviston Trophy was won by Derek Street, Glendaruel, with an outstanding score of 149 ex 150.
All the 50 targets were hit; the single point lost was due to the use of the second barrel on one target.
Derek is competing in the selection trials for the Scottish National team this week, and all wish him every success. Second place with a score of 145 went to junior Archie McBride, Glendaruel.
Archie will loose his junior eligibility shortly and it has been interesting to watch his progression over the years into the fine shot he now is. Third place was taken by Donnie McPhail, Glendaruel, on 139 points.
There was a tie for fourth place between Ronald Robert- son, Bute, and Alan Brown, Bute with 138 points.
Ronald Robertson won the Pool Trap, and the Safety Car Competition sponsored by Argyll Fire Safety Consultants was won with a maximum score of 45 points, by Alan Brown, Bute.
Grateful thanks are extended to Anne McPhail for her excellent catering. The club also wishes to thank all those who donated items for the catering and prizes for the raffle and assisted with the running of the shoot.
