Staff deserve better

WHAT on earth is going on at Glensanda quarry?

We have reported over the past couple of weeks about the threat to as many as 25 jobs at the quarry by the new Spanish operator, Oban Earth Works.

Staff at the quarry and their trade union, the GMB, have slammed Oban Earth Works for its behaviour recently in putting people’s jobs in jeopardy.

The company has said it is ‘unlikely’ there will be any compulsory redundancies at what is Europe’s biggest granite quarry, but this reassurance has been dismissed by GMB officials.

Furthermore, the company said ‘it is likely 23 or more members of staff will remain from 38’. It seems there is no doubt some members of staff will be made redundant but there is dispute about the numbers. This is a highly unsettling time for people working at Glensanda, whose future is being squabbled over. The workers deserve far better treatment than this.
