THIS week’s Oban Times is, I would suggest, unrivalled for its coverage of Highland games taking place at various venues across Argyll, the isles and Lochaber.
Over the past week or so, we have had reporters and photographers at these marvellous sporting events at Lochaline, Inveraray, Mull, Taynuilt and Kilchoan, and we will be at more.
Thankfully, the weather has been excellent, with warm temperatures and some bright sunshine.
And didn’t the crowds turn out in numbers to watch fantastic traditional sports and other competitions?
Some people may see these games as something of an anachronism but I would disagree fervently.
Highland games are an important part of our culture and heritage and it is significant there is such a high level of interest among the public, as is manifest by the large attendances.
As ever, I am a huge admirer of the selfless souls who toil away behind the scenes to make sure these fabulous games are staged in the first place.
Without them, these events would not take place.
Nor, it must be said, would they happen without the generous sponsors who provide the necessary financial backing.
I tip my tile to all of you.
