The Oban Times - - LETTERS -

The ongoing saga of PMG Services, the engineering company evicted from its premises in North Connel, is continuing to rumble on.

Peter MacGregor, who owns the business, said that nothing has changed, and he is no closer to finding an alternative site. He was originally told that there would be place for him in Oban airport, but this fell through.

There has been considerable support for Mr MacGregor and his business, with a petition being signed by close to 400 backers.

It is very understandable that people want to see PMG Services succeed. This is, after all, a local company employing local people, including two apprentices. Rural areas such as ours need good businesses which provide well-paid jobs.

However, there is no escaping the fact that PMG Services was operating unofficially, having failed to secure the correct planning permission. There was also an inquiry overseen by a Scottish Government reporter which supported the eviction, so there can be little complaint about the treatment.

Notwithstanding that, it is important that Mr MacGregor continues to trade and we would urge Argyll and Bute Council to do all it can to facilitate a solution.
