Banned for ‘terrible piece of driving’

AN INVERMORISTON man has been banned from driving for six months and fined £ 560 for a ‘terrible piece of driving’.

Peter Levings of Glendale Park, pled guilty to an amended charge of careless driving on the A82 north of Gairlochy junction at Spean Bridge when he appeared at Fort William Sheriff Court on Thursday July 20.

The court heard Levings was returning home after a 10-hour shift at work and was in discomfort from a shoulder problem on December 12 last year. Levings overtook two slower moving cars and tried to pass a lorry at a summit, forcing an oncoming police car to brake from 60mph to 20mph to avoid a collision.

Levings’ defence agent said the 33-year- old Marine Harvest technician accepted he had made an error of judgement.

Sentencing him, Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald told Levings: ‘This was a terrible piece of driving. A serious collision could have happened.’

Levings also had his licence endorsed.
