Katie wins cov­eted Ro­tary mu­sic prize

Oban Ro­tary’s Young Mu­si­cian of the Year for 2017 is Katie Hous­ton, a fifth-year pupil at Oban High School. Katie, who plays the flute, per­formed at the se­nior prize- giv­ing at the Ar­gyll­shire Gath­er­ing back in June when Ro­tary pres­i­dent Gra­ham Fraser pre­sented her with the club’s en­graved quaich, a cer­tifi­cate and a cheque for £50. Iain Mac­In­tyre, of Oban Ro­tary Club, said: ‘Katie com­mit­ted fully to the range of ex­tracur­ric­u­lar mu­sic op­por­tu­ni­ties that her school of­fered, of­ten per­form­ing at school con­certs and recitals. ‘Katie also passed her Royal School of Mu­sic grade five flute this year while also bal­anc­ing five High­ers – quite an achieve­ment.’
