Young blood boosts Colonsay Co

The Oban Times - - News -

AN INJECTION of young blood has ‘energised’ the Colonsay Community Development Company (CCDC) as it aims to attract new families to the island.

Its board of management also co- opted ‘experienced hand’ Dannie Onn, after a public vote at its recent AGM, where each of the 44 local members present received a ballot sheet containing the names of the 10 candidates, from which they were to choose eight.

Former director Scott Weatherstone said: ‘Those in attendance were overjoyed at the prospect of another election, on the heels of several general elections, a Scottish parliamentary one, a council one and two referenda.

‘For the first time in several years, there were more candidates than there were places on the board.

‘Ros Jewell, an artist and carer for the elderly, Colm McNicholl, a crofter and fencer and Caroline Seymour, also a crofter plus a school and shop- worker, were the three new candidates.

‘The general response among local folk to the election result was that being represented by a committee with its full complement of members could only be positive with regard to the development of Colonsay.

‘Moreover, given that attracting new families to the island is the central aim of CCDC, the contributions of the youthful new cohort will be particularly valuable.’
