Great Oban Raft Race will be hotly contested

The Oban Times - - News -

WHILE some may be sad to see the West Highland Yachting Week finishing this week, others will be delighted that the ‘proper’ racing starts in the Great Oban Raft Race this Saturday August 5.

Annual entrants Autoglass will again throw down the gauntlet to the other teams entered in the annual event.

Jim Edge, of organisers Oban and Lorn Lions, said: ‘Claiming bragging rights will be Autoglass ... if and when they win on Saturday afternoon.

‘This may come as challenge to the RNLI, who consider themselves well trained in all things seaside and have an excellent chance of claiming top dog status.

‘The rest of the challengers will not take this lying down and will make this year’s race really competitive.

‘There is a good entry for this year’s event with the rafts and the fancy dress outfits kept a closely-guarded secret.

‘If you want to witness this annual spectacle it all happens about 2pm this Saturday from the town centre beach.’

To Boldly Go! reached warp speed to win last year.
