Vegans prepare to stage public street event
OBAN vegans will hold their first public address, organised by Earthlings Experience, in George Street from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday August 27.
Vegans are asked to wear black and bring graphic images via laptops, tablets and other devices. Some of those attending will also be wearing white papier-mache masks.
A spokesperson for the event said: ‘Those without masks will be giving leaflets for the public to understand the horrible exploitation and cruelty on all species for food, clothes, recreation and research.
‘This event will be a success and a foundation stone for progressive future events to stop the oppression of all species, including humankind.
‘People taking part should be members of the Earthlings Experience Scotland.’
Earthlings Experience was set up in February 2015 and offers a number of resources to campaigners who are involved in promoting animal rights.
Hard-hitting slaughterhouse and animal welfare videos and leaflets show the view of a vegan on mass meat production.
The brother and sister found- ers of the Earthlings Experience group say that all you need to be a campaigner is a ‘a laptop, a mask and a public space’.
Now an international movement, this will be the first march and larger campaign in Oban.
In the past, Earthlings Experience campaigners have been seen outside Oban High School with messages about meat and the methods used in its production.
