ALLAN McKie won the Championship at Glencruitten last weekend with scores of 65, 70, to add to his first two rounds, making a total of 270. Phillip Murphy was runner up with a total of 272. Graham MacColl won the George Smith Trophy with net scores of 61, 65 =126. Runner-up was Donald McGill with net scores of 59, 68 = 127. On Saturday the Wilson Cup and Britannia Cup Final takes place followed by the Glencruitten Open the following Saturday.
CONGRATULATIONS to ‘The Putting Kings’ from Lochgilphead who won the 3-Man stableford at a sunsoaked Dalmally on July 23 in a closely- contested Open.
A terrific net birdie 3 on the final hole by Grant MacDougall saw the mid-Argyll team of Grant, Kenny MacAulay and David Sinclair pip the ‘Killin Exiles’ by a single point, 84 to 83, to claim the silverware.
The Exiles comprised golfing nomads, Brian Stock (Crieff), George Ferguson (Cardross) and John MacIlroy (Kenmore).
In third place were home team ‘Two Drams and a Driver’ aka Graeme and Arik MacKechnie and James MacMillan, who just squeezed ‘Tony and Two Golfers’, Tony Graham (Dalmally), Jack and Stan Marshall (Cardross and Dunblane) into fourth space by a single point on 82 to 81.
