PAUL Murton, presenter of BBC TV’s Grand Tours of the Scottish Islands, fell in love with the Hebrides as a child and has spent half a lifetime exploring the islands he considers the most beautiful in the world.

In a new book, The Hebrides, published in August by Birlinn, he explores the breathtaking scenery and the colourful history, culture, myths and legends of the islands.

He also meets the people who make the Hebrides tick, from crofters, fishermen, tweed waulkers and clan chiefs to peat cutters, gin distillers, black-pudding makers and even a rescuer of parrots.

Paul Murton will be promoting his new book in bookshops throughout Scotland this summer and autumn, starting in the Highland Bookshop in Fort William on Thursday August 24, Tackle and Books in Tobermory on Friday August 25 and Waterstones, Oban, on Saturday August 26.
