New mascot for Atlantis is unveiled

-

Atlantis Leisure’s new mascot will be … Leo the Lion.

The design competition to replace Alf the dinosaur, who has retired, was won by nineyear- old Aimee Didcock, from Rockfield Primary School.

Three finalists, Mr Cookie, Leo the Lion and Tigger, were all vying to become the new face of the Oban leisure centre, but in the end the judges put Leo, whose name stands for Let’s Exercise Oban, at the apex.

A delighted Aimee explained: ‘I was inspired by a lion for my mascot because they are strong, powerful and full of courage.

‘Leo likes to exercise and keep active with his friends. He is not keen on his vegetables, but likes to use his superpowers which make him run extra fast.’

Organisers look forward to unveiling Aimee’s winning design at the centre’s party as Atlantis Leisure celebrates its 25th birthday this year and has launched a fundraising drive to pay for new changing rooms.

The committee is organising lots of great activities over the year-long celebrations, which start with a birthday cake competition, fun day and the official opening of the play park on September 30.
