A CONFERENCE commemorating the centennial of the Great War will take place in Dunoon.

Kicking off the two-day event will be Trevor Royle, who will talk about Argyll residents who were involved in the battle.

The event is on October 6-7 in the Burgh Hall, with a free exhibition from October 2.

The organisers say it is very much a community event, with local art groups, eight schools, a choir, Men’s Shed, Veterans and Cadets as well as many individual residents taking part.

The Studio Cinema will show a film from 1922: A Couple of Down and Outs – the original War Horse Story, as well as Spielberg’s modern version.

There will also be a concert featuring music from the time and two showings of a specially -commissioned play titled Home Fires, Broken Sons.
