DALMALLY – United Auc­tions held a spe­cial sale of all classes of lambs and heep at Dalmally Auc­tion Mart on Fri­day Oc­to­ber 6 when they had 3,208 for­ward. All classes sold in keep­ing with cur­rent market lev­els.

Lambs (1,021) sold to £54 gross for a pair of Texel crosses from East Croft Roy, New­ton­more. Ewes (695) sold to £60 gross for a pen of Charol­lais crosses from 63 Or­mis­caig­beag, Kil­choan. Feed­ing sheep (67) sold to £76 gross for a pen of Charol­lais cross gim­mers from 63 Or­mis­caig­beag.

STORNOWAY – Ding­wall & High­land on Tues­day Oc­to­ber 3 sold 128 weaned calves and store cat­tle, seven breed­ing cat­tle and 14 OTM cat­tle at their an­nual show and sale. Prior to the sale the judge Mr B Duffton awarded the fol­low­ing: Over­all cham­pion and first prize bul­lock Mr A Ma­cleod, 16 Up­per Bar­vas, 274kg, £660. Weaned heifers (48) av­er­aged 194.0p and sold to 304.1p for a 171kg Beef Shorthorn from 7/8 North­ton, Isle of Har­ris and £690 gross (twice) for a 322kg Li­mousin cross from Cloverdale, 25 Lower Bar­vas and also for a 343kg Aberdeen An­gus cross from 13 Cross Skiger­sta Road, Ness. OBAN – United Auc­tions held the an­nual Oc­to­ber show and sale of spring-born suck­led calves at Oban Live­stock Cen­tre when they were favoured with an en­try of 849 head.

A good selec­tion of pre­dom­i­nantly hill-reared calves was pre­sented to a large fol­low­ing of buy­ers, many mak­ing their first visit to the cen­tre. Pre-sale judge was Tom Cochrane, East Balscal­loch, Stran­raer, who made the fol­low­ing awards.
