Kyokushinkai Karate

CALE­DO­NIA Kyokushin held its an­nual ju­nior tour­na­ment on Novem­ber 4 in the Mid Ar­gyll Sports Cen­tre in Lochgilp­head – the medal win­ners will be an­nounced in the next ar­ti­cle. The tour­na­ment was well at­tended by mem­bers from IKKU Oban, IKKU Lochgilp­head, IKKU Perth, Sen­shi Do Oban, Ar­gyll Mar­tial Arts, Oban and Ar­gyll Mar­tial Arts In­ver­aray.

The club mem­bers are work­ing to­wards their next grad­ing tests in mid-De­cem­ber when Dar­ryl McLaugh­lin will at­tempt his black belt test. The next in­take of new mem­bers will be in Jan­uary 2018.

Kick­box­ing

SEN­SHI Do Kick Box­ing had its an­nual Hal­lowe’en spon­sored fancy dress ses­sion fol­lowed by a party for the ju­niors on Wed­nes­day Oc­to­ber 25. As usual the chil­dren had a great time, with Hollie Cor­mack and Lo­gan Gal­braith win­ning the girls’ and boys’ best cos­tume, Melody Hwang and Cal­lan May win­ning girls and boys re­spec­tively in mu­si­cal stat­ues, while Sara MacIn­tyre and Billy Brat­ton won the girls’ and boys’ wall stands. There were also goody bags for all the young­sters to take home with them. The money raised was enough to buy two new six-foot punch bags and two sets of body pads. Club coach Wul­lie Rodger said: ‘A huge thank you to Sharon Dick­i­son, Ker­rie Gal­braith and Kait­lynne MacLeod for all the help in set­ting up and run­ning the ses­sion.’

Shukokai Karate

CLUB grad­ing tests are tak­ing place over this week and re­sults should be posted in the next ar­ti­cle.

Un­for­tu­nately, due to un­fore­seen cir­cum­stances in the com­mu­nity cen­tre, the Dal­mally classes are post­poned un­til Novem­ber 21. All the other classes are run­ning as nor­mal.

The clubs had sev­eral en­trants in the ju­nior tour­na­ment in Lochgilp­head last Satur­day and a full write-up will be in the next ar­ti­cle.
