Ruaraidh Galbraith, 16, from Barra has been announced as a finalist in the Young Scot Awards, which recognise incredible and heroic achievements.

As part of the Year of Young People 2018, Scotland set out to inspire and celebrate young people across the country by showcasing their accomplishments and contributions to their communities.

The Sunday Mail and Steven Brown Art Young Scot Awards 2018 will be one of the closing events of the Year of Young People 2018 and is set to be the biggest and best awards night in its 12-year history.

Ruaraidh is a finalist in the Excellence in Education category. Ruaraidh has displayed outstanding achievement through his academic career and has shown great dedication to his school and community.

Beyond the school environment, Ruaraidh was a member of the Young Scot 5Rights Youth Commission which co-designs recommendations on how to improve young people’s digital rights. As part of the group, Ruaraidh presented a final report last year to the Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop.

The annual awards ceremony will be held on Friday November 30.
