Lit­er­ary High­land hoolie blows into Mal­laig in Novem­ber

A ‘write’ High­land hoolie is head­ing for Mal­laig next month.

The town’s book fes­ti­val will be mak­ing it­self at home un­der one roof at the West High­land Ho­tel from Novem­ber 9 to Novem­ber 11.

Or­gan­is­ers of what will be the third fes­ti­val say it will be more ex­cit­ing than ever, with a line-up of fab­u­lous au­thors join­ing them for the a week­end of lit­er­ary cel­e­bra­tion. There will also be good food and live mu­sic.

The fes­ti­val launches with a Fri­day drinks re­cep­tion for open­ing event ticket hold­ers, hosted by whisky ex­pert Marc Elling­ton who will be re­veal­ing all about il­licit dis­till­ing and whisky smug­gling.

Satur­day’s guests in­clude broad­caster Sally Mag­nus­son, writer of the Seal­woman’s Gift. Book­bug will also be there and there will be a fea­ture writ­ing work­shop to list just a few of the of­fer­ings.

Sun­day sees a ses­sion on The He­brides with his­to­rian, film­maker and broad­caster Paul Mur­ton who is well­known for his trav­el­ogues. An­gus Mac­Don­ald will also be talk­ing about his new book, We Fought For Ard­nish, fol­low­ing the tale of Don­ald An­gus Gil­lies grow­ing up on the re­mote Ard­nish Penin­sula.

The week­end will end with a prize-giv­ing, re­ward­ing the win­ners of a creative writ­ing com­pe­ti­tion for pri­mary and high school pupils. High school par­ents are pro­vid­ing an af­ter­noon tea. Do­na­tions will go to school projects.
