GUIDE TO MEN’S TRAINERS

The Observer Magazine - - FASHION - HELEN SEAMONS

The start of a new season calls for new kicks. For autumn add a pair of 80s dad trainers, the kind that look like the emoji, to your shoe repertoire. Sidestep the streamlined all-white minimal trainers and look to retro brands like Diadora, Asics and New Balance to tap into the look seen on the runway at Balenciaga, where more colourful (and uglier) styles were worn with boardroom suits, pyjama pants and sweatshirts. No need for an at-work shoe change this season. Your trainer mood board should include Reebok’s Instapump Fury, a monster of a sneaker and Raf Simons’s Adidas Ozweego, a seriously sturdy shoe. If you aren’t ready to hang up your white pumps just yet, worry not, OAMC and Louis Vuitton covered the vogue for chunkier styles in all-white styles.
