Lower scores may in­di­cate a greater ten­dency to­wards mind­ful­ness in the mo­ment. ‘Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the fu­ture,’ said Bud­dha. ‘Con­cen­trate the mind on the present.’ Scot­tish philoso­pher Thomas Car­lyle had this rec­om­men­da­tion: ‘Stop a mo­ment and look around you’. Amer­i­can car­toon­ist Bil Keane re­minds us: ‘Yesterday’s the past, to­mor­row’s the fu­ture, but to­day is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present.’
