Owner of Scots­man and ‘i’ up for sale

Debt-laden John­ston Press, the owner of news­pa­pers in­clud­ing the i and the Scots­man, hung a for-sale sign over its door af­ter pro­tracted talks with cred­i­tors. The pub­lisher, which owns 200 re­gional news­pa­pers, opted for a sale be­fore a £220m debt re­fi­nanc­ing that it can­not af­ford. Buy­ers could in­clude ri­vals keen to snap up the i, which is on track to make a £12m profit.
